Under the ownership of Henry Hylden brother and sister from his first litter reached the KC Stud Book

Colonel: SBE 444S,
Lottie: SBE 450S.

Lottie winning her first KC Challenge Certificate (CC) in 1912, was the first Brighton Champion in 1913, by winning 1st in Open at Crystal Palace and Alexandra Palace.

Also from this litter, under the ownership of Miss L.E. Brogden, who had bought Henry of Brighton, Nellie of Brighton gained a KC SBE 1375S, and the CC at the Welsh Kennel Club in the same year.

At this time Colonel was competing against well established Champions such as Porthos and Old Ship Usher.  However, in 1915, by then in the ownership of Lieut.-Commander T. Hagerton, he won the Limit, Open and his first CC at Crufts.

By this time, Henry Hylden was campaigning his new dog from Lottie's second litter, Gentle.  Lottie's first litter had produced a SBE winner for Mr. H. Desborough Dobson at Crufts 1914, in Ada of Brighton.

Through Ch. Gentle of Brighton and Queen of Brighton, Henry Hylden was able to line-breed back to Colonel and Lottie, with a litter in 1919, which was to provide the most famous bloodhound, between the two World Wars; Ch. Dark of Brighton.

In the days before portable cameras, artists came to Crufts to paint portraits in oil whilst exhibits were waiting at the bench.  Below are those commisioned for Henry Hylden, by F.T. Daws in 1912.
